Tata Motors to deliver 200 electric buses to J&K

Mumbai/ Jammu & Kashmir - Tata Motors Ltd of Mumbai have won the tender of 200 electric buses floated by Jammu Smart City Limited, for Jammu & Srinagar, entered a strategic collaboration in the twin capital cities of the Jammu and Kashmir regions.

The purchase of 150 units of Tata ultra Urban 9-metre1 and 50 units of Tata Ultra 12-metre Starbus electric2 buses has been enabled as part of an initiative of Housing and Urban Development Department from the Government of Jammu & Kashmir’s initiative for environmentally friendly public transportation.

As part of the contract, Tata Motors will supply, operate and maintain Tata Starbus electric buses for a period of 12 years. Tata Motors says that its electric buses have been in Jammu & Kashmir since 2019 when the company delivered 40 units.

Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 AC electric bus - It measures 9m in length and has a wheelbase of 4.92m. It has a permanent magnet alternating current (PMAC) traction motor with continuous output of 145kW (Max: 245 kW or 328hp) with the range of 0 to 2500 rev / min and continuous torque of 1145Nm (Max: 3000Nm). Battery type; Li-Ion Battery Pack. Capacity: 124kWh (expandable). Charging time is 2 to 2.5 hrs with fast charging. Passenger service provisions include charging ports, Wi-Fi hotspot for on-the-go connectivity and wide entry and exit passages. The full-electric buses come with Intelligent Transport System (ITS), telematics system, regenerative braking system, amongst other features for efficient and smooth operations.

Tata Urban 12m Electric bus of 17.8t gvw is powered with Integrated Motor Generator develops Max Power: 245 kW, Continuous Power: 145 kW which is coupled with Li-Ion Battery Pack- ~186 KWH. Charging time is 2 to 3 hrs with Fast charging, > 150 kms (As per standard test conditions/ CMVR) and max speed is 75km/hr. The 12-metre long, 35-seater Tata Starbus AC electric buses are equipped with advanced features for the comfort of the driver and the passengers like the ‘Lift Mechanism’ that extends an automated ramp for easy ingress and egress of especially abled passengers, along with ergonomic seats, roomy interiors, utility provisions like charging ports and wide entry and exit passages. The full-electric buses come with Intelligent Transport System (ITS), telematics system, regenerative braking system, amongst other features for efficient and smooth operations.
