Germany– Tevex Logistics GmbH is adding 166 new refrigerated semi-trailers from Schmitz Cargobull to its fleet. The first two trailers delivered—an all-electric S.KOe COOL and a S.KO COOL with ePTO-ready cooling unit—mark the beginning of this large-scale upgrade aimed at reducing transport emissions and increasing energy efficiency.

During a visit to the Vreden production plant, Andreas Schmitz, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull AG, Frank Reppenhagen, Director of the West Europe Region, and Rene Lemke, Regional Sales Manager for Bielefeld, officially handed over two “electrified” box body semi-trailers to Dirk Mutlak, Managing Director of Tevex Logistics, and Sven Masuhr, Head of Carrier Management at Tevex Logistics. At the handover ceremony, the benefits and key features of the trailers were presented in detail, followed by a live demonstration showcasing their advanced functionalities. The S.KO COOL semi-trailer carries dual branding from both Tevex Logistics and Schmitz Cargobull and prominently displays information highlighting its ePTO interface.

Emission-Free Refrigerated Transport with ePTO Technology

One of the new trailers features the S.CU d80 ePTO-ready cooling unit, which enables fully electric, zero-emission cooling when paired with an electric truck. The system draws power directly from the truck’s electric power take-off (ePTO), allowing the transport refrigeration unit to operate without diesel fuel. A built-in diesel generator acts as a backup, with the intelligent control system seamlessly switching between power sources to ensure continuous operation. This hybrid capability is especially beneficial for logistics companies operating mixed fleets, offering both flexibility and reduced carbon footprint.

S.KOe COOL: All-Electric Refrigerated Trailer for Sustainable Logistics

The second trailer, the S.KOe COOL, is Schmitz Cargobull’s fully electric refrigerated trailer, built for emission-free transport of temperature-sensitive goods. It features an integrated electric cooling unit, a 32 kWh high-voltage battery system, and a generator axle that recuperates energy during braking and coasting. This technology extends the trailer’s autonomous operating time—ranging from 4.5 to 18 hours, depending on conditions—and minimizes reliance on external charging infrastructure. The trailer also supports fast grid charging via a CEE three-phase connection, achieving a full charge in just two hours.

Tevex Logistics Leads in Green Transport Innovation

These initial deliveries follow Tevex Logistics’ significant order placed at the IAA Transportation trade fair in 2024. With this move, Tevex reinforces its leadership in sustainable refrigerated transport, embracing cutting-edge electric trailer technology to support the industry’s shift toward carbon-neutral logistics.

Mr. Andreas Schmitz, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull AG, said, “We have enjoyed a successful bond and working relationship with Tevex Logistics for many years now. With the box body semi-trailers delivered today, we are once again raising the bar for economically efficient and sustainable temperature-controlled transport. Our new S.CU d80 cooling unit with an ePTO interface offers maximum flexibility. It is able to run exclusively on electric energy and – thanks to an additional diesel drive – can still guarantee full supply reliability, even in the event of an electrical power failure. As there is no high-voltage battery or electric axle, we are also able to keep investment costs low for the transport company – an important step towards future-viable, sustainable refrigerated transport.”

Mr. Dirk Mutlak, the Managing Director of Tevex Logistics, said, “With these two innovations in energy supply, we are enhancing our cutting-edge fleet and making huge strides towards decarbonisation. On this journey, we are investing in all of the latest technologies and are very happy with the advanced solutions created by our long-standing partner Schmitz Cargobull. With Schmitz 2025-132 Cargobull refrigerated vehicles, we can achieve considerable CO2 savings thanks to the outstanding k-value.”
