Nagoya, Japan- TIER IV, Inc., creators of Autoware, the first open-source software for autonomous driving, is partnering with Hitachi Astemo Limited., to advance autonomous driving systems and software-defined vehicles (SDVs). This collaboration builds on both companies' involvement with the Autoware Foundation and SOAFEE initiative, aiming for mass production solutions by 2030.
Hitachi Astemo is emerging as a Tier 0.5 supplier, delivering comprehensive system solutions that address the entire vehicle architecture. The company is developing an Internet of Vehicles Platform (IoV PF) to meet automaker needs and pioneering a cloud-native software architecture to enhance development efficiency, product quality, and reduce costs. Autoware will serve as the core autonomous driving software in this architecture.
TIER IV is collaborating with AWF and SOAFEE to establish industry standards and expand the Open AD Kit, a development kit for autonomous driving based on Autoware. The company plans to enhance cloud-native environments for the kit and support SOAFEE-compliant SDV architectures, leveraging Hitachi Astemo's reference system to accelerate the next-generation Open AD Kit project.
Additionally, TIER IV is advancing a large-scale cooperative machine learning operations (MLOps) infrastructure and edge AI models for autonomous driving. With the launch of the Co-MLOps project in January 2024, TIER IV aims to create a global framework for companies to collaborate and share data, integrating these capabilities into the Open AD Kit and aligning them with Hitachi Astemo's system.
Through this partnership, TIER IV is committed to developing autonomous driving systems that provide significant value to automakers and shape the future of the automotive industry.
