TIL Limited Launches ‘TIL Defence’ Strategic Business Unit

Kolkata - TIL Limited., a material handling and infrastructure equipment manufacturer, has unveiled a major strategic move with the formation of a dedicated defence-focused Strategic Business Unit (SBU) named ‘TIL Defence’. This new unit is set to consolidate the company’s expanding defence portfolio and fast-track the indigenous production of critical military systems, reaffirming TIL’s long-standing commitment to the country’s defence and self-reliance initiatives.

Approved by the Board of Directors, the creation of TIL Defence signals a significant evolution in the company’s 80-year journey and follows its acquisition by the Gainwell Group in January 2024. The SBU aims to deepen TIL’s engagement across the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force by leveraging nearly four decades of experience in defence equipment manufacturing.

TIL new SBU producing existing approved defence systems, developing new products through collaboration with Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), modernising platforms with advanced technologies, and expanding into strategic deployment zones.

Mr. Alok Kumar Tripathi, President of TIL Limited, said, “TIL Defence consolidates nearly four decades of specialised defence manufacturing, from our AKASH Transporter cum Loader Vehicles serving the Air Force to the Pinaka Loader cum Replenishment Vehicles that form the critical logistics backbone for India's Multi Barrel Rocket System. Our equipment operates in the most demanding conditions - from -30°C to +55°C temperatures and altitudes up to 4,000 meters - with NATO Standard-qualified systems that demonstrate our engineering excellence. This dedicated SBU will accelerate our contribution to Atmanirbhar Bharat & Make in India initiatives by reducing import dependency and establishing India as a credible supplier of indigenous defence systems to regional markets.”
