Amsterdam, Netherlands- TIP Group., has entered into a long-term hire agreement with Cambridgeshire-based cold chain logistics operator Chiltern Distribution for two new temperature-controlled trailers equipped with Sunswap Endurance electric refrigeration units.
The battery-powered refrigeration systems are primarily charged from the electricity grid at Chiltern Distribution’s depots. Roof-mounted solar panels provide additional charging while the trailers are in operation, helping extend battery performance and reduce dependence on external charging.
Combined with an optimised trailer specification, the Sunswap technology eliminates the need for conventional diesel-powered refrigeration units, reducing emissions, fuel consumption and operating noise.
Manufactured by SOR, the new electric refrigerated trailers have been added to Chiltern Distribution’s fleet to transport chilled, frozen, ambient and pharmaceutical products across the United Kingdom.
Chiltern Distribution selected the electric refrigeration solution following a successful operational trial. The trial demonstrated that the system could meet the company’s temperature monitoring, product protection and regulatory compliance requirements.
The agreement reflects TIP’s continued focus on helping fleet operators transition towards lower-emission transport solutions by providing access to advanced trailer and refrigeration technologies through flexible long-term hire arrangements.
