Valkenswaard, Netherlands- VDL Bus & Coach BV., a vehicle manufacture, has delivered the first VDL Futura 3 coach in Belgium, marking another key milestone in the rollout of its latest long-distance coach range. When Reizen De Arend officially became the first Belgian customer to receive the new model.
Following the initial deliveries of the VDL Futura 3 in the Netherlands at the end of January 2026, this latest handover represents the next step in bringing the coach from market introduction into everyday operation.
With the third generation of the Futura, VDL Bus Group aims to set a new benchmark in long-distance travel by focusing on efficiency, passenger comfort, safety and lower lifetime operating costs.
The vehicle delivered to Reizen De Arend is a 12.9-metre single-deck coach, which will be used for international operations by the Flemish coach company.
Ms. Stefan Geudens, Managing Director of Reizen De Arend, said the company values its long-standing partnership with VDL and sees the Futura 3 as a natural progression, offering innovation, low fuel consumption and a high level of passenger comfort.
Earlier, in January 2026, Marc van Doorn, Director Coach at VDL Bus Group, highlighted that the delivery of the first vehicles marked the beginning of the Futura 3’s real-world deployment. He noted that operators can now integrate the coach into daily services while passengers begin experiencing the latest Futura generation on the road.
A major highlight of the VDL Futura 3 is its improved fuel efficiency. Through a combination of enhanced aerodynamics, reduced vehicle weight and advanced technology, the coach delivers fuel savings of up to 15 percent. These improvements help reduce operating costs while supporting more sustainable fleet operations. The vehicle has also been designed with future developments in mind, including the potential integration of alternative drivetrains.
VDL Bus Group has also focused on lowering maintenance and operating costs. Its modular construction, smart engineering and improved system accessibility are designed to simplify repairs and servicing, reducing the total cost of ownership over the vehicle’s lifecycle.
Customer and passenger feedback played a central role in the development of the Futura 3. The coach features an ergonomically designed driver’s cabin with improved seating comfort and intuitive controls. Inside, passengers benefit from a refreshed interior, ambient lighting and premium materials that enhance travel comfort.
On the safety front, the VDL Futura 3 is equipped with the latest generation of ADAS driver assistance systems, improved visibility and features designed to meet increasingly strict safety requirements. A newly developed climate system also ensures quieter and more efficient temperature control throughout the coach.
