VECV to Produce Volvo AMT for India and Asia

Gurugram- VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, has announced an investment of ₹544 crore (approximately 576 million Swedish Krona) to set up a new greenfield manufacturing facility for the Volvo Group’s state-of-the-art 12-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The new plant will be located at Vikram Udyogpuri Integrated Industrial Township, near Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

This investment marks another major milestone in the 18-year-long partnership between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors. It further strengthens India’s role in Volvo Group’s global manufacturing network. Since 2013, VECV’s Pithampur facility has served as the global production hub for Volvo Group’s 5- and 8-litre (MDEP) engines, reinforcing the company’s commitment to ‘Make in India for the World’.

The new investment to assemble and produce the Volvo Group AMT is built on the bedrock of this trust and technical capability. The new AMT facility will have an initial capacity to produce up to 40,000 units p.a. with production and local content to be gradually ramped up in line with Volvo Group’s global processes and quality standards.
