Pella, Iowa - Vermeer Corporation., an agricultural equipment manufacturer, has introduced the new SC402 stump cutter, designed to meet the evolving needs of tree care professionals seeking greater torque, maneuverability, and productivity in stump removal applications. Powered by a robust 40-hp (29.8-kW) Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine, the SC402 delivers up to 40% more productivity compared to its predecessor, the SC382.

Engineered for performance in both open and confined spaces, the SC402 comes with standard four-wheel drive (4WD) for enhanced traction and reduced ground disturbance. The compact machine is also jobsite-friendly, with a reducible width of 35.5 in (90 cm) that allows it to navigate through standard 36-in gates by simply removing the dual wheels.

Mr. Josh Vrieze, Group product manager for Vermeer Environmental Equipment, said, “The SC402 stump cutter is engineered to meet the demands of tree care professionals who require robust performance and efficiency. With its increased torque and the electronic throttle control (ETC), operators can expect consistent power delivery, particularly when cutting below grade. The machine’s design also prioritizes maneuverability in confined spaces and ease of operation.”

One of the standout features is Vermeer’s SmartSweep control system, which monitors engine load and automatically adjusts the cutter wheel sweep rate. This intelligent system ensures smoother operation, reduces operator fatigue, and extends machine life by minimizing unnecessary stress on components.

The SC402 also features a unique ground drive system that balances torque between the drive wheels, offering a blend of traction and minimal turf damage, a significant improvement over traditional systems that compromise on one or the other.

The machine also includes a 10-gallon (37.9-liter) fuel tank for extended runtime, easily accessible service panels for simplified maintenance, and an optional backfill blade to assist with efficient site cleanup.

Users can also choose between two cutting systems - the Vermeer Cutting System (VCS) or the Yellow Jacket cutter system, based on ground conditions and job preferences.

With its powerful engine, compact design, and innovative features, the Vermeer SC402 stump cutter is set to become a versatile workhorse for professionals tackling challenging stump removal tasks across varied terrains.
