Volkswagen has introduced the ID.3 Neo with a new electric drive system that improves efficiency and increases driving range.

Wolfsburg, Germany – Volkswagen AG, a Motor Vehicle Manufacturer, has introduced the new APP350 high-efficiency drive system in the ID.3 Neo, making it one of the first models to use the latest MEB+ electric platform. Unlike the front-wheel-drive ID. Polo and ID. Cross, the ID.3 Neo uses the rear-wheel-drive version of MEB+, which is better suited to its larger battery options and higher power outputs. The APP350 is an all-new drive unit developed specifically for improved efficiency and replaces the earlier APP310 in most ID.3 Neo variants up to 170 kW. The only exception will be the future performance-focused flagship model, which is expected to use the APP550 drive. In Volkswagen’s internal naming, “APP” stands for Axial Parallel Position, referring to the layout of the permanently excited synchronous motor, while the numbers 310, 350, and 550 indicate maximum torque in newton-metres. Thanks to its improved efficiency over the APP310, the new APP350 helps lower energy consumption and allows the ID.3 Neo to deliver a longer driving range with the same battery capacity.
At launch, the ID.3 Neo will be offered in three trims — Trend, Life, and Style — along with three power outputs and three battery options. The electric motor lineup includes 125 kW (170 PS), 140 kW (190 PS), and 170 kW (231 PS) versions. The 125 kW motor comes paired with a 50 kWh net battery and serves as the standard setup for the ID.3 Neo Trend. Meanwhile, the Life and Style variants can also be configured with a 58 kWh battery producing 140 kW or a larger 79 kWh battery delivering 170 kW. In terms of charging, the 50 kWh and 58 kWh batteries support DC fast charging up to 105 kW, while the 79 kWh version can charge at up to 183 kW.
The ID.3 Neo also offers a strong range performance across its lineup. The version with the 50 kWh battery and 125 kW motor can travel up to 417 km, while the 58 kWh, 140 kW model delivers up to 494 km. The top-range version with the 79 kWh battery can achieve up to 630 km on the WLTP cycle. Depending on the battery pack, charging from 10 to 80 percent at a DC fast charger is expected to take around 26 to 29 minutes.
Another new feature in the ID.3 Neo is its redesigned electronic driving sound. Since electric vehicles are naturally quiet, many countries require them to emit an audible warning at low speeds to improve pedestrian safety. To meet this need, Volkswagen has developed a new signature sound for the model. The system is designed to create a more refined and engaging acoustic experience by adjusting in real time based on factors such as speed, accelerator input, and drive torque. The sound remains active up to 25 km/h in all drive modes and selector positions, while Sport mode adds a more distinctive and dynamic tone at speeds of up to 50 km/h.
