Gothenburg, Sweden- Volvo Group and Daimler Truck, two of the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, have officially launched Coretura AB, a joint venture dedicated to developing a next-generation software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform that aims to set a new standard across the industry.

Following the signing of binding agreements on October 28, 2024, and subsequent regulatory approvals, Coretura has now begun operations at its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, marking a significant milestone in the digital evolution of commercial transportation.

As the commercial vehicle industry transitions into an increasingly digital future, Coretura’s mission is to create a standardized, open, and modular SDV platform, including a dedicated operating system tailored for commercial vehicles. This platform will serve as a foundational layer—what the partners call the "non-differentiating core"—enabling OEMs like Volvo and Daimler Truck, as well as future customers, to build their own distinctive digital applications and experiences.

Coretura will also manage the specification and sourcing of centralized, high-performance control units capable of processing large volumes of vehicle data. This approach will decouple software and hardware development cycles, enabling customers to benefit from over-the-air (OTA) updates, enhanced safety features, operational efficiency, and a more dynamic user experience.

The company is led by a four-member Executive Management Team, with equal representation from both shareholders. Johan Lundén, previously responsible for Strategic Product Planning and Innovation Management at Volvo Group, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer.

Starting with an initial team of approximately 50 employees, Coretura plans a phased expansion based on technical progress and strategic milestones. The venture adopts a collaborative co-development model, actively engaging with partners and customers throughout the product development lifecycle. The first Coretura-enabled vehicle products are expected to launch before the end of the decade.

While Volvo Group and Daimler Truck will continue to operate as independent competitors, each delivering its own digital ecosystem and value-added services, Coretura provides a shared technology base that supports innovation without compromising brand identity.

The company also extends an open invitation to industry partners, suppliers, and developers who share its vision to collaborate in building the future of commercial vehicle mobility.

Ms. Karin Rådström, President and CEO of Daimler Truck, said, “With Coretura, we are setting a clear strategic focus on software development for commercial vehicles. This is a big and really exciting step — not just for us, but for the entire industry and our customers. Together we are starting the digital-driven future of trucks and buses, ultimately making commercial vehicles smarter, more connected, and more efficient than ever before.”

Mr. Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of the Volvo Group, said, "Coretura represents a bold step forward in the evolution of commercial vehicles. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and collaborative innovation, we're setting the stage for a new era of connectivity and efficiency in the industry. This venture underscores our commitment to not only advancing our products but also paving the way for sustainable and intelligent transportation solutions."

Mr. Johan Lundén, CEO of Coretura, said, “This joint venture blends the agility of a start-up with the stability and expertise of our major shareholders. We are proud and energized to lead the digital transformation in the commercial vehicle industry—backed by strong shareholder support and committed to shaping the industry’s future.”
