Gothenburg, Sweden- Volvo Buses Corporations., has started the first live demonstration of an all-electric city bus in Latin America. In Curitiba, Brazil, the Volvo BZL Electric will operate on two lines that link numerous neighborhoods, carrying 135,000 passengers every day and integrating with the city's BRT at multiple terminals. Subsequent Volvo BZL Electric demonstrations are scheduled for São Paulo, Bogotá, Colombia, and Santiago, Chile.

Mr. André Marques, President of Volvo Buses in Latin America, said that, An additional phase in our electrification process is represented by these electric buses. We are totally dedicated to developing sustainable people-transport solutions, and we have a zero vision that includes zero emissions, zero noise, zero accidents, and zero congestion.

The Curitiba demonstration satisfies the conditions set forth by URBS, the public transport authority in charge of supervising the city's purchasing of electric buses beginning in 2024. Important evaluations of crucial elements, including energy usage, autonomy, noise level, and vehicle performance given the geography of the city, will be done throughout the demonstration.

Mr. Alexandre Selski, Director of Electromobility at Volvo Buses in Latin America, said that, Volvo electric buses operate exceptionally well in Europe and a few other continents. We shall now demonstrate that this feat will be duplicated in the difficult circumstances that exist in Latin America.

With its 94kWh batteries, the Volvo BZL Electric 4x2 chassis is designed for use in urban and metropolitan environments. With four batteries and a 200kW electric motor, the Curitiba demonstration vehicle is constructed in compliance with URBS regulations for electric buses. With room for up to 80 passengers, the vehicle is 12.6 meters in length. It will run all day long and recharge at night.
Zone Management allows the Volvo BZL Electric to automatically reduce speed in critical regions, like crowded cities, terminals inside, and schools. It was originally installed on bi-articulated cars in Curitiba in 2018, and the first year's reduction in accidents was 50%.

Volvo Buses will continue its electromobility adventure in Latin America with more scheduled Volvo BZL Electric demonstrations in São Paulo, Bogotá, Colombia, and Santiago, Chile.
