Volvo CE introduces its updated EC300 and new EC400 straight boom excavators, designed for enhanced performance, improved safety, and powerful demolition capabilities.

Eskilstuna, Sweden- Volvo Construction Equipment., (Volvo CE) is modernizing its straight boom excavators with an updated EC300 and an all-new EC400, as part of its new generation revamp – ensuring a superior performance, greater safety and dynamic demolition strength.
The new and improved 40-ton EC400 Straight Boom crawler excavator is replacing the EC380E Straight Boom, while the 30-ton EC300 Straight Boom is the enhanced model following the previous generation EC300E Straight Boom.
Designed for top productivity in demolition, the EC300 and EC400 deliver exceptional reach, stability, and comfort, now enhanced with future-ready design, improved safety, and performance features.
The updated EC300 and EC400 offer 30% more reach than standard models, with detachable counterweights for enhanced stability and transport ease. Built on a new platform, they achieve 14% better fuel efficiency, and the EC400 gains 10% more engine power. A spacious, high-tech cab enhances comfort and visibility, while advanced controls, including an electric joystick and travel pedal, provide precise handling.
The upgraded cab on the EC300 and EC400 offers maximum protection, featuring robust rollover protection, frame-mounted Falling Object Guards, and 12 mm impact-resistant glass for clear visibility and safety. Combined with excellent stability, high visibility, and a durable design, these excavators are ideal for heavy-duty demolition. They’re versatile too, handling tasks like digging, site clean-up, and truck loading. A lifetime warranty on the frame, boom, and arm ensures lasting reliability, while maintenance is simplified with extended 1,000-hour hydraulic oil and filter intervals.
The updated EC300 and EC400 come with essential features, including a larger auxiliary return line for faster attachment movements and an innovative case drain line that directs oil back to the tank. Key technological upgrades like Auto Power Boost, bounce reduction, adjustable boom controls, and a reversible cooling fan ensure efficient, durable performance. A built-in dust suppression system eliminates the need for separate water trucks, capturing dust early. These advanced demolition excavators, the first for Europe and North America, are available for order: EC400 in November 2024, and EC300 in March 2025.
The EC300 and EC400 Straight Boom excavators are robust demolition machines with operating weights of 31,766–33,304 kg and 41,771–43,326 kg, respectively. Powered by engines producing 189 kW (253 hp) in the EC300 and 253 kW (339 hp) in the EC400, both models excel in reach and depth, achieving up to 11,760 mm and 12,004 mm in digging reach. Their breakout force ranges from 165 to 215 kN with boost options for increased power. Featuring bucket capacities of 0.52–2.9 m³, these excavators deliver stability and performance for demanding jobs.
