Gothenburg, Sweden- Volvo Energy Power Unit (AB Volvo) introduces the Volvo PU500 BESS, a mobile Battery Energy Storage System designed to deliver flexible, reliable power across Scandinavia. With a battery capacity of 450–540 kWh, it supports both grid-connected and island modes and can be tailored for remote sites, events, and more.

The PU500 uses in-house Volvo battery packs, proven safe through millions of hours powering heavy-duty EVs and construction equipment. It includes advanced safety systems typically found in large-scale BESS: fire detection, thermal management with liquid cooling, dividing wall, deflagration panels, fire hose connection, and remote monitoring.

Secure & Connected, Control is simple and secure locally via an intuitive HMI or remotely via app/web portal. Fleet owners can track multiple units through a certified, cybersecure cloud system.

The PU500 is a mobile, robust, and easy-to-deploy power unit featuring a battery capacity of up to 540 kWh, a 240 kW DC fast charger (CCS2), and multiple AC outlets (63 A, 32 A, 16 A, and Schuko). Designed for flexible handling, it can be moved using a crane, forklift, or wheel loader. It supports AC input up to 86 kW (400 V, 3-phase) and delivers DC output through an 8-meter CCS2 cable. Recharge time is approximately 5 hours (based on a typical 70% SOC window), and the liquid-cooled Li-ion NCA battery is built for over 10 years of operation. Housed in a 10 ft ISO container with IP54 protection, the PU500 operates reliably in temperatures from -25°C to +40°C and at altitudes below 2000 meters. It meets all key certifications, including UN 38.3, IEC 62619, CE, EUBR, and UNECE R100.

Mr. Niklas Thulin, Head of BESS Product Offer at Volvo Energy, said, “With an integrated CCS2 charger, the PU500 is designed to work with all brands of electric equipment, trucks, and passenger cars. This ensures that no matter what type of electric vehicle or machinery you rely on, the PU500 can provide the power you need, making it a truly flexible solution for any grid constrained site or location.”

Mr. Elisabeth Larsson, Head of Sales and Services at Volvo Energy, said, “The PU500 is a reliable, adaptable, and efficient solution designed to meet the needs of businesses and industries that require flexible power options. Whether for remote sites, electric vehicle fleets, or construction projects, the PU500 ensures you have the power you need, when you need it.”
