The safety software may give first responders a thorough view of the truck by utilizing a combination of connectivity, camera, sensors, 3D modelling, and augmented reality overlays. It includes directions on how to properly shut off the electric vehicle's power source in an emergency as well as information on where high-voltage cables, battery packs, and other important parts are located.

An expert team from the Volvo Group's research and development centres in Sweden, France, and the US created the safety app. The app also includes all safety documents pertaining to the electric vehicle, which is accessible to the app user after the truck is detected, in addition to augmented reality data and 3D models.

Volvo Group's Chief Technology Officer, Lars Stenqvist says, "We are proud to be at the forefront of the electric truck revolution with high-performing solutions, but we also recognize the importance of ensuring the safety of first responders who are called to an emergency should an incident with an electric vehicle occur. The new AR app is a strong tool that can help the emergency services secure the scene quickly and safely while reducing the danger of harm to themselves and other people.

Vincent Barnoux, AR Expert & Business Solution Engineer at Volvo Group stated that, "The safety app has been tested in a variety of real-world scenarios and has received favorable feedback from first responders who have tried it in the field."

All heavy electric truck brands owned by the Volvo Group, including Volvo Trucks, Renault Trucks, and Mack Trucks, have safety information available through the Emergency Response Guide app, which is now freely downloadable from the Apple and Android app stores. The AR features will be made available for Mack electric vehicles starting in June 2023.
