Nagpur - Volvo Trucks., a truck manufacturer, has launched Volvo FM 420 4×2, a first Road Train in India, aimed at boosting high-volume transport efficiency. In partnership with Delhivery Ltd., a logistics service provider, it was inaugurated in Nagpur by Mr. Nitin Gadkari, a Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways.

After extensive testing, the Volvo FM 420 4×2 Road Train has been certified by MoRTH and ARAI for use on the Nagpur-Bhiwandi route with Delhivery Ltd. The Volvo FM 420 4X2 Road Train is set to revolutionize freight transport with its high-capacity design and advanced safety features. Comprising a 24-ft intermediate trailer and a 44-ft semi-trailer, it offers 144 cubic meters of cargo space—50% more than standard trailers.

The Road Train comes with advanced safety features, including an Electronic Braking System (EBS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), 360-degree camera, and self-steerable axle. It also includes a dashboard load monitor, downhill cruise control, and stretch brake, boosting stability and control for safe, efficient long-haul transport.

Mr. Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., said, "The Volvo FM 420 4X2 Road Train is yet another groundbreaking innovation by Volvo Trucks for the Indian market. Engineered to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness in road transport, it aligns seamlessly with the ongoing transformation in Indian logistics and the government’s Gati Shakti master plan. Volvo Trucks India sincerely appreciates Shri Nitin Gadkariji, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and ARAI for driving such advancements. We remain dedicated to introducing more global innovations to India."

Mr. Suraj Saharan, Co-founder and Chief People’s Officer at Delhivery, said, "We are thrilled to further enhance our partnership with Volvo Trucks as we move towards high-efficiency, sustainable long-haul logistics. From adopting tractor-trailers to LNG and electric trucks, Volvo has played a crucial role in our journey. Road trains are a logical next step, ideally suited for our high-volume line-haul operations. With India’s expressway network growing rapidly, we look forward to expanding this innovation across more routes in the near future."
