Gothenburg, Sweden- Volvo Buses has introduced the new Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis, marking a significant step in the electrification of long-distance travel. Built on the versatile global BZR Electric platform, the coach chassis offers an industry-leading battery capacity of up to 720 kWh and a tested operating range of *up to 700 km (SORT 3 cycle)**, enabling interregional and long-haul routes that were previously not viable for electric coaches.

Available with two or three axles and four to eight modular energy storage units, the chassis can be tailored to meet different operational needs, whether optimized for shorter routes or maximum range. This flexibility, combined with the ability to operate in environmental zones, makes it an ideal solution for intercity, tour, and charter operators. “Our new electric chassis reaches for more than just extended operating range. It enables new routes and gives operators greater versatility,” said Anna Westerberg, President of Volvo Buses.

The BZR Electric coach chassis reflects Volvo’s commitment to sustainability, with responsibly sourced materials, durable construction for a longer lifecycle, and reduced environmental footprint. It is compatible with bodies from different builders depending on market and customer needs, further expanding its adaptability. Operators will also benefit from charging flexibility, with 250 kW CCS depot charging and 450 kW OppCharge on-route charging, as well as the latest active safety systems designed to protect passengers and vulnerable road users.

Mr. Dan Pettersson, Senior Vice President at Volvo Buses, said, “Together with operators, we are making travel safer, more comfortable, and sustainable than ever before. The first BZR Electric coach chassis, bodied by Carrus Delta, is already destined for customers in the Nordic and Benelux markets. With this launch, Volvo Buses now offers electromobility solutions across every segment—city, intercity, long-distance, and charter—delivering comfort, efficiency, safety, and sustainability for the future of passenger transport.
