Volvo's EC18 Electric mini excavator features a straight boom, increasing pin height by 10% for enhanced reach in indoor and urban demolition.
Date: March 1, 2025Virginia, US - AB Volvo., a construction equipment manufacturer, has launched the EC18 Electric mini excavator featuring a new straight boom option. This upgrade increases pin height by 10%, offering improved reach and versatility for indoor and urban demolition projects.
Volvo EC18 Electric, a 1.8-ton battery-electric compact excavator designed for optimal performance in indoor demolition, now features an innovative straight boom option. This enhancement increases the pin height by 10% compared to the standard boom configuration, allowing for greater reach and versatility in confined spaces.
The EC18 Electric continues to offer zero-emission operation, reduced noise levels, and improved efficiency, making it an ideal choice for environmentally conscious demolition projects. With the new straight boom, operators can achieve enhanced precision and flexibility, further expanding the machine’s capabilities in urban and indoor job sites.
Mr. Tony den Hoed, Director of Demolition Strategic Accounts at Volvo, said, “Electric compact excavators’ lack of emissions and reduced noise have made them popular options for indoor demolition. Contractors told us that a straight boom on the EC18 Electric would give them the extra height needed to reach ceilings while still easily fitting through doorways. Nimble machines are critical for indoor demolition, and we welcomed the opportunity to provide a solution that will help our customers win more jobs.”
Demolition contractors recognize the advantages of a straight boom, which provides greater reach than a standard two-piece boom and improves machine positioning. On the Volvo EC18 Electric excavator, the straight boom option delivers a 13-foot (396 cm) working height (with bucket) and supports attachments up to 450 lbs (204 kg). Additionally, it can be factory-equipped with a demolition guarding package for enhanced operator and machine protection.
