Wirtgen’s new W 250 XF delivers 1,207 hp with dual engines, 21% more power, and mills up to 288 ft/min for high efficiency.
Date: May 10, 2025Rheinland, Germany - WIRTGEN GmbH., a construction equipment manufacturer, has unveiled its latest high-performance cold milling machine, the W 250 XF in the U.S. market. Designed to deliver superior power, speed, and automation, the W 250 XF builds on the foundation of its predecessor - the W 250, by offering 21% more engine power and significantly improved operational efficiency.
The W 250 XF is a dual-engine drive system, featuring two 18-liter John Deere 6180HD engines. Together, they deliver a combined output of 1,207 horsepower, enabling the machine to handle demanding milling tasks while optimizing fuel use. The machine supports long operation hours with a fuel capacity of 343 gallons and water storage of 1,188 gallons. It achieves a top travel speed of 3.3 mph and a milling speed of up to 288 feet per minute, making it both powerful and efficient in the field.
With an operating weight of 111,774 pounds, the W 250 XF is engineered for stability and strength. It measures 9.3 feet in width, 54.6 feet in length, and reaches 15 feet in height with the conveyor fully raised. These dimensions support its capability to work on large-scale projects while offering easy integration into existing fleets.
One of the standout features is its quick-change drum system, which allows contractors to replace the entire milling drum assembly in under an hour. The standard drum can also be quickly swapped for a multiple cutting system (MCS) drum in just minutes, offering added flexibility for different milling applications. Four milling widths are available: 7.2 feet, 8.2 feet, 11.5 feet, and 12.5 feet.
The W 250 XF features Mill Assist for optimized engine performance with selectable modes for cost, quality, or output. Wirtgen’s Performance Tracker logs real-time data and emissions for accurate billing and analysis. The Level Pro Active system improves precision with sensor feedback and automated functions, boosting efficiency and reducing operator effort.
The W 250 XF offers three engine modes, letting operators use one engine for lighter tasks or both for heavy-duty milling. Its quick-change drum system and smart controls make it a highly adaptable tool for modern roadwork. With this launch, Wirtgen delivers a powerful, intelligent machine built for performance and efficiency.
