WTC Group Orders Kalmar Ottawa T2 EV

Port Coquitlam, Canada-  WTC Group Inc., a logistics and supply chain service provider, has ordered the Kalmar Ottawa T2 EV Electric Terminal Tractor, marking another significant step in the adoption of zero-emission yard equipment in Canada. Supported by the Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) grant programme, the investment reflects the company's strategy to improve operational efficiency while reducing emissions across its logistics operations.

The deployment highlights the growing demand for battery-electric terminal tractors in the shunting industry and reinforces WTC Group's commitment to sustainable logistics. By integrating electric yard vehicles into its fleet, the company aims to enhance operational performance, reduce its environmental footprint, and strengthen its position as a forward-looking logistics provider.

Kalmar Ottawa has been a leading manufacturer of terminal tractors since 1958, with its diesel-powered T2 model earning a strong reputation for reliability, durability, and operator comfort across ports, distribution centres, and intermodal facilities throughout North America. Building on that legacy, the company has introduced the T2 EV, a fully electric terminal tractor developed to meet the evolving requirements of modern fleets while eliminating tailpipe emissions.

The T2 EV has been engineered to provide a seamless transition from diesel-powered equipment by retaining the same cab layout and controls, allowing operators to switch between vehicle types without additional training. According to Kalmar, the vehicle underwent extensive engineering, testing, and validation before its commercial launch, making it the most comprehensively tested product in the company's history.

Mr. Brad Gordon, Director of Maintenance at WTC Group, said that innovation has always been a core part of the company's operations, adding that growing customer demand for sustainable logistics solutions made investment in electric terminal tractors a logical step toward improving both operational efficiency and environmental performance.

Mr. James Leibold, Zero Emissions Vehicle Sales Manager at Kalmar, stated that the company spent several years developing the T2 EV to ensure it matched the performance and reputation established by the diesel-powered T2 terminal tractor, delivering an electric solution capable of meeting customer expectations.
