Iwata- Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., has launched the new YZF-R2 supersport motorcycle, powered by a newly developed 204cc engine. The new motorcycle is scheduled to reach Indian Yamaha dealerships in mid-September 2026 as a 2027 model. It is positioned above the YZF-R15 in Yamaha’s R-Series lineup.
The YZF-R2 is based on Yamaha’s “Concentrated Supersport Riding” concept and is designed to bring supersport performance and easy riding characteristics to the 200cc segment. The motorcycle combines a lightweight chassis, electronic control technologies and R-Series-inspired styling.
The bike is powered by a 204cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC, single-cylinder, four-valve, fuel-injected engine. It gets a semi-dry sump lubrication system, a lightweight steel-tube diamond frame and a 149 kg chassis for agile handling.
The YZF-R2 features YCC-T electronically controlled throttle technology, along with Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) riding modes, traction control and Yamaha’s third-generation quickshifter. Its slim and compact bodywork continues Yamaha’s distinctive R-Series design language.
Yamaha will offer three versions of the YZF-R2 for different customer requirements, including daily riding and track use. Production will be carried out by India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. in India, with the motorcycle scheduled to go on sale through Indian dealerships in mid-September 2026.
