Osaka, Japan - YANMAR HOLDINGS CO., LTD., a construction machinery manufacturer, plans to launch a new Electrification Unit in April 2025, dedicated to advancing electrification in the compact off-highway sector. This unit will develop a wide range of e-powertrain solutions, including batteries and eDrives.

Yanmar's new Electrification Unit will collaborate with long-time customers to electrify excavators, wheel loaders, and other industrial machinery. Focusing on three key areas of Yanmar-branded equipment, OEM machinery, and e-powertrain components, the unit aims to drive innovation and strengthen Yanmar’s leadership in zero-emission solutions.

Mr. Tetsuya Yamamoto, Chief Operating Officer at Yanmar Holdings, said, “This initiative is a major milestone in Yanmar’s commitment to realizing our brand statement, A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE. The development of e-powertrains is crucial for adapting the expertise we have built with diesel engines to a broader range of applications beyond just construction and agricultural machinery, and it represents an important step towards achieving carbon neutrality.”

The Electrification Unit will function with strategic autonomy, enabling agile decision-making and innovation in electric machinery, e-powertrains, and battery systems. With a global presence, it will leverage an international network to ensure worldwide reach and localized expertise.

Leveraging Yanmar Group’s expertise and support network, the new Electrification Unit will tackle industry electrification challenges. Part of Yanmar’s Green Challenge 2050, it reinforces sustainability efforts, alongside hydrogen, alternative fuels, and resource recycling initiatives.

Dr. Marko Dekena, Executive Director Global Innovation & Technology at Yanmar, has been appointed to lead new Electrification Unit, bringing extensive expertise in electric and alternative energy powertrains. The unit will integrate Yanmar’s e-powertrain initiatives, including Eleo Technologies battery operations, to accelerate zero-emission solutions. This move strengthens Yanmar’s leadership in sustainable, off-highway electrification.
