UK - YASA Limited, a leader in next-generation electric motor technology, has officially launched the UK’s first axial-flux motor super-factory on May 13, 2025, in Yarnton near Oxford. Backed by a £12 million investment, the upgraded 60,000 sq ft facility will boost YASA’s production capacity to over 25,000 high-performance electric motors annually, setting new standards in EV drive systems.
The plant is equipped with cutting-edge CNC coil winding, laser stripping and brazing, high-precision rotor balancing, and fully integrated stator quality control systems. This integrated production ecosystem not only increases automation and repeatability but also resolves component supply chain challenges, offering unmatched flexibility and reliability.
The axial-flux motors produced by YASA deliver up to four times more performance than traditional EV motors and are crucial for both electric and hybrid vehicles. These motors are lighter, more compact, and more efficient — key traits for the future of sustainable automotive innovation.
Although the expansion was privately funded, YASA maintains a close collaboration with the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC) to advance future generations of axial-flux motor technologies.
With this strategic move, YASA strengthens the UK’s position in the global electric mobility revolution, pushing the boundaries of e-motor innovation.
Tim Woolmer, YASA CTO and founder, said “With a multi-million-pound investment into our Yarnton facility, we have transformed our manufacturing capability and significantly accelerated our production capacity. This latest initiative will enable us to apply our technology with even greater accuracy, pace and scale. Combined with YASA’s position as part of the Mercedes-Benz Group, the factory transformation consolidates YASA’s role as a global leader in developing high-performance, high-efficiency axial-flux e-motors.
“As a company, we have come a long way since our humble origin as an Oxford University start-up. However, we are still driven by the same passion, spirit and determination to create the world’s most advanced electric mobility technology solutions.” Tim added.
Joerg Miska, CEO summed up YASA’s direction, said “This vastly improved facility is another important step in YASA’s ongoing strategy to further expand its product and customer portfolio. The new super factory delivers increased flexibility, efficiency, and quality, positioning the company for diverse business opportunities. Thanks to their ultra-compact design and exceptional torque and power, YASA motors are perfectly suited for high-performance hybrid vehicles and other fully electric applications across complementary sectors.”
