Friedrichshafen, GermanyZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division has introduced the new SUMS Service Suite, a complete toolkit designed to help trailer manufacturers meet and maintain compliance with international automotive software update regulations. As modern vehicles become more reliant on advanced electronics, the United Nations has implemented Regulation R156, requiring OEMs to establish a Software Update Management System (SUMS) to ensure long-term safety and cybersecurity. ZF’s SUMS Service Suite supports trailer OEMs in meeting these standards, offering a robust solution for managing software updates throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle.

Comprehensive SUMS Support: ZF’s Five-Part Service Suite

ZF’s modular SUMS Service Suite helps trailer OEMs manage and document software updates in full compliance with UN/ECE Regulation R156.At its core is the ISO 24089-certified SCALAR SUMS SaaS platform, which tracks and verifies software and hardware versions, supports cybersecurity compliance, and simplifies audits and certification renewals.

The suite also includes expert consulting, a practical certification toolkit (handbook, templates, checklists), targeted training for OEMs and suppliers, and a portfolio of SUMS-ready technologies like TEBS-E7, iEBS, OptiTire TPMS, and the SmartBoard control panel—offering a complete solution for regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

ZF’s current certification already includes the SCALAR SUMS Software-as-a-Service platform and a selection of ZF CVS trailer products.
