Pune- ZF India Pvt. Ltd., has entered into a strategic partnership with one of India’s leading commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturers to supply several thousand units of its manual and automated manual (AMT) 9-speed transmissions for trucks in the 1300Nm torque segment.
As part of this collaboration, ZF will provide its EcoMid and EcoTronic Mid transmission systems, engineered specifically for over-25-ton truck applications. These advanced systems are designed to deliver greater fuel efficiency, higher performance, and long-term reliability for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
ZF is steadily establishing itself as a major player in the high-torque CV market in India, offering 9-speed transmissions up to 1500Nm and 12-speed options up to 3200Nm, addressing the growing industry demand for higher engine torque. These transmissions are being manufactured locally at ZF’s Chakan plant in Pune, reflecting the industry’s shift towards more powerful and efficient drivetrains.
The EcoMid transmission is ideal for commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 55 tonnes. Its 9-speed design, available in both direct drive and overdrive versions, ensures optimal engine power delivery, improved fuel economy, reduced driver fatigue, and extended clutch life.
Thanks to its modular platform and compatibility across a wide range of vehicle types, ZF’s transmission solutions support the transition to higher horsepower (>300 HP) and more demanding commercial vehicle applications. Additionally, the ZF Group offers comprehensive solutions across the Autonomous, Connected, and Electric (ACE) domains, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and mobility transformation in India.
This partnership marks another step forward in ZF’s mission of “Redefining India’s Mobility”, positioning the company as a global leader in commercial vehicle solutions.
Mr. Akash Passey, President ZF Group in India, said, "With over six-decades of strong market presence in India, ZF has consistently provided advanced technology solutions that enhance operational efficiencies. This partnership underscores our role in delivering cutting-edge transmission solutions, strategically tailored to meet the evolving demands of our OEM partners. Together, we continue to drive progress and innovation in the industry.”
Mr. P Kaniappan, Sr. VP, ZF Group, said, "The EcoMid and EcoTronic Mid transmissions will help drive operational efficiencies for the commercial vehicle industry, particularly in the heavy truck sector. This strategic agreement not only strengthens ZF Group's position as the premier provider of commercial vehicle solutions but also aligns with the market's shift towards higher efficiencies in higher tonnage vehicles. We are committed to delivering substantial progress for our customers and the Indian market."
