ZF Group marks 100 years in rail tech with the 'EcoWorld 2' transmission, enhance efficiency and sustainability.
Date: September 25, 2024Berlin, Germany- ZF Group., is celebrating 100 years of rail technology at InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin, showcasing its latest mobility solutions. Key highlights include the 'EcoWorld 2' rail transmission, which reduces fuel consumption and maintenance costs, and the 'connect@rail' solution for predictive maintenance. The 'CeTrax 2 dual' drive supports buses in challenging terrains, emphasizing ZF's commitment to sustainable transport. Visit booth 580 in hall 20 to explore their portfolio of conventional and electric drives, chassis technology, digital solutions, and aftermarket services from September 24 to 27.
Prof. Dr. Peter Laier, ZF Board Member for Commercial Vehicle and Industrial Technology, said, “Public passenger transport by rail and road is an important cornerstone of our daily mobility. As an innovative and broad-based technology partner, we support our customers in making this mobility more efficient, safer and more sustainable.”
ZF rail technology, starting with the development of the “Soden TS18.5” transmission in 1924, originally adapted from passenger car technology. Today, ZF continues to innovate with solutions like the EcoWorld 2 six-speed powershift transmission, which enhances diesel railcar efficiency by saving up to 20% in fuel and reducing maintenance costs. Additionally, ZF’s connect@rail system combines digital expertise with advanced data analysis to monitor the condition of drivetrains and track infrastructure, enabling proactive maintenance, enhancing safety, and ensuring smoother rail mobility for vehicle manufacturers and operators.
In 2022, ZF introduced the EcoLife CoachLine six-speed automatic transmission for intercity buses and coaches, handling engine torques up to 2,800 Nm. Showcased at InnoTrans, this powershift transmission is renowned for its efficiency and comfort, particularly on interurban routes and mountainous terrain, with a dual cooling system that lowers maintenance and operational costs.
ZF also unveiled the CeTrax 2 dual, an innovative electric central drive for public transportation, offering 380 kW of continuous output. Its compact and lightweight design enhances efficiency and performance, even with high passenger loads or challenging terrains.
Beyond advanced technology, ZF supports bus manufacturers and transport authorities with its ZF Bus Connect fleet management system, featuring Vehicle Health, OptiTire, and seamless integration of planning, scheduling, ticketing, passenger information, and billing, ultimately boosting vehicle reliability and customer profitability.
