Friedrichshafen / Hanover, Germany – ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a mobility technology supplier, has unveiled its new MAXX Uniper air disc brake at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover. The system is designed to support commercial vehicle manufacturers in meeting upcoming EURO 7 brake-particle emission requirements.
Combined with a specially coated brake rotor, MAXX Uniper can reduce PM10 brake-particle emissions by up to 65%. The system provides braking torque of up to 30,000 Nm, making it suitable for demanding heavy-duty truck and commercial vehicle applications.
MAXX Uniper builds on ZF's single-piston air disc brake technology and the MAXX brake platform. According to the company, more than 12 million units based on its single-piston technology have been sold over the past three decades.
The brake incorporates a bi-directional adjuster that regulates clearance between the brake pad and rotor, supporting consistent pad wear and helping reduce the risk of overadjustment.
Its compact single-piston architecture uses fewer components to improve reliability and simplify maintenance. A redesigned carrier and brake pad system also allows easier pad replacement.
ZF has developed MAXX Uniper around a modular architecture, allowing manufacturers to use a common brake concept across different heavy-duty commercial vehicle platforms and global applications. Series production is expected to begin in 2027.
For fleet operators, the brake can also be equipped with a plug-and-play continuous wear sensor. The replaceable, calibration-free sensor is designed to simplify maintenance and support higher vehicle uptime, while improved sealing protects the system against dirt and debris.
MAXX Uniper forms part of ZF's broader EURO 7 technology portfolio and can be integrated into axle systems for conventional, hybrid and fully electric commercial vehicles.
