Mysuru – BEML Limited., a heavy earthmoving and mining equipment manufacturer, has unveiled India’s first indigenous 35-ton electric dump truck at its Mysuru complex, marking a major step forward in the country’s push toward sustainable mining equipment. The launch was led by BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy, along with senior officials and industry partners.
The newly introduced electric dump truck is designed to deliver high productivity in demanding mining environments while producing zero tailpipe emissions. Developed to global standards, the platform highlights BEML’s growing focus on clean, advanced, and future-ready technologies for the mining and infrastructure sectors.
The 35-ton electric dump truck is powered by a high-efficiency PMSM motor and features a 300 kWh lithium-ion battery. It delivers 85–90 percent energy efficiency, regenerative braking, and a liquid-cooled battery thermal management system for better safety and battery life. BEML says the truck can reduce energy costs by 60–70 percent and overall operating costs by 40–60 percent, with an estimated payback period of one to two years.
For durability and safety, the electric dump truck comes with IP67 and IP68-rated electrical systems along with integrated fire protection. BEML has also developed scalable charging infrastructure that can charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent in around 60 to 90 minutes, helping support continuous mining operations.
Mr. Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, said, “The introduction of India’s first indigenous 35-ton electric dump truck marks an important milestone in the company’s journey toward sustainable engineering and advanced industrial solutions. He added that the development reflects BEML’s commitment to innovation, indigenisation, and environmental responsibility.”
With this launch, BEML has reinforced its position in the mining and construction equipment sector while supporting India’s broader vision of sustainable, self-reliant industrial growth.
