BMW Z4 M40i Pure Impulse Edition Debuts in India

Gurgaon- BMW India a subsidiary of German car manufacturer BMW, has unveiled the Z4 M40i Pure Impulse Edition in India, marking a significant first—the Z4 M40i is now available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This special edition blends performance and purity, featuring retuned chassis components, staggered M alloy wheels, and exclusive design upgrades inside and out, all tailored for an even more engaging roadster experience.

At the heart of this special edition is a compelling new powertrain setup: a straight-six engine delivering 250 kW (340 hp) paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox—a configuration previously reserved only for BMW M GmbH’s high-performance sports cars. Now, this dynamic pairing arrives in a BMW M Performance model, reinforcing the Z4’s focus on driving thrills.

The manual transmission was developed specifically for the Z4 M40i. It features a BMW modular transmission system with M-specific gear sets and shafts, adapted for the high output of the straight-six engine. The external shift mechanism, including the shift lever and its guide, is also exclusive to the Pure Impulse Edition—offering that signature BMW shift feel and enhancing the emotional connection between driver and machine.

This unique transmission setup provides direct power delivery and intuitive gear changes. The Z4 M40i with the manual gearbox sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, combining performance with a raw, analog driving sensation.

Chassis updates include bespoke auxiliary springs, a reinforced anti-roll bar clamp at the front, and newly calibrated rear dampers. The adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, M Sport brakes, and M Sport differential are all fine-tuned for this edition to enhance agility and cornering precision.

BMW has also introduced staggered M light-alloy wheels for the first time on the Z4—19-inch fronts and 20-inch rears, finished in high-gloss black. This setup improves traction and lateral control, especially under spirited cornering.

Visually, the Pure Impulse Edition wears M High-gloss Shadowline trim with extended features, including exclusive model badging, black high-gloss mirror caps, aerodynamic flaps near the rear arches, and red brake calipers.

New exterior color options include Frozen Deep Green metallic (Europe) and Sanremo Green metallic (USA), alongside other shades from the standard BMW Z4 palette.

Inside, the cockpit is tailored for immersive driving pleasure. The highlight is the M gearshift lever with a unique model-specific sleeve, while the seats are upholstered in Cognac Vernasca leather with black M piping, exclusive to this edition. High-gloss black trim adds a refined, performance-focused vibe.
