Caterpillar launches the 395 Long Reach Excavator (LRE), optimized for dredging, ditch cleaning, and waterway maintenance with enhanced efficiency.
Date: March 11, 2025Irving, Texas – Caterpillar Inc., a construction equipment manufacturer, has introduced the 395 Long Reach Excavator (LRE), designed for efficient long-distance operations such as dredging, ditch cleaning, and maintaining canals and waterways. Built for power and precision, it enhances productivity in demanding environments.
With a digging depth of nearly 22 meters and a reach of up to 28 meters at ground level, the Caterpillar 395 LRE stands in the super-long-reach category, combining its stick and boom configuration with powerful digging force.
Mr. Vincent Migeotte, Senior product and sales consultant at Caterpillar, said, “Available as a kit, which can be retrofitted to any 395 model, the 395 LRE option provides operators with a boost to the capabilities and reach of a standard 395, bringing its power, speed, and fuel efficiency to bear on a whole new range of excavation applications. The kit also underlines Caterpillar's commitment to productive, safe worksites, with additional handrails making for safer access and egress, while as-standard rear and side view cameras can be supplemented by a 360-degree option for maximum visibility.”
Designed for underwater tasks, the long-reach excavator comes with an optional kit featuring fully waterproofed sensor boxes. This ensures seamless operation of next-generation technologies like the Cat Payload Management System, Cat 2D Grade Control, and Cat 2D E-fence, which maintains the front linkage within a predefined work area.
The undercarriage upgrade includes a 1.33 m car body extension for improved stability and an 85 mm increase in ground clearance. The cab sits 24 cm higher than standard, enhancing visibility. Stability is further boosted by a 40% heavier counterweight, now 21.5 mt, while maintaining the same dimensions and tail ratio.
The aftermarket kit includes an 11.8-meter stick, a 15.5-meter boom, a CV linkage, and boom cylinders. The specially designed bucket holds up to 2m³ of material, depending on density. Migeotte highlights that the kit maintains the standard 395’s core features while enhancing versatility and performance. The Cat 395 LRE delivers the same low ownership costs, fuel efficiency, and minimal maintenance, ensuring a strong return on investment.
