Caterpillar Launches New Cat 980 GC Wheel Loader

Irving, Texas - Caterpillar Inc., a construction and mining equipment manufacturer, has introduced the new Cat 980 GC Wheel Loader, expanding its lineup of medium wheel loaders with a model engineered for reliable performance, reduced fuel consumption, and lower owning and operating costs. Designed for a wide range of applications, the 980 GC offers an intuitive user interface, advanced efficiency features, and robust build quality rooted in Caterpillar’s decades of innovation.

The new Cat 980 GC is powered by a Cat C13 engine paired with fuel-saving features like EIMS, Auto Engine Idle Shutdown, a variable speed fan, and load-sensing hydraulics. Its automatic planetary powershift transmission ensures smooth shifting and durability, reaching speeds up to 39.8 km/h. Optional ride control boosts comfort and load retention, while an available limited slip differential improves traction on tough terrain.

The Cat 980 GC features Performance Series buckets with a 4.3–5.8 m³ capacity for faster loading and better material retention. Its Z-bar linkage delivers strong breakout forces, boosting digging and production. Load-sensing hydraulics improve fuel efficiency by supplying power only when needed, while optional third-function hydraulics and the Cat Fusion quick coupler increase versatility. Standard Cat VisionLink helps manage fleet data, and optional Cat Payload systems enable accurate, on-the-go material weighing, including trade-approved options.

The Cat 980 GC offers a spacious, comfortable cab with intuitive controls, excellent visibility, and user-friendly machine monitoring. Safety features include ladders on both sides, a rearview camera, and extended windows, while practical service access and an optional Autolube system simplify maintenance.
