Peoria, Illinois - Caterpillar Inc., a construction equipment manufacturer, has introduced its newly re-engineered Cat C32B diesel engine, designed to deliver higher power density, improved reliability, and extended rebuild intervals for large off-highway machines and industrial equipment.

The 32.1-litre, 12-cylinder engine now produces up to 895 kW (1,200 hp) and 5,861 Nm (4,323 lb-ft) for U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final applications, 839 kW (1,125 hp) and 5,499 Nm (4,056 lb-ft) for EU Stage V, and a peak of 1,007 kW (1,350 hp) with 6,166 Nm (4,548 lb-ft) for less regulated markets. It is suited for a wide range of applications including loaders, cranes, dredgers, paving, surface hauling, trenchers, pumps, forestry equipment, and bore/drill rigs.

Redesigned from the ground up, the C32B features a durable cast-iron block, an induction-hardened crankshaft with larger journals, improved connecting rods, and an upgraded lubrication system with higher-flow piston cooling. Enhancements to the cylinder head, piston, and gasket improve sealing, heat transfer, and overall power density.

The engine includes a dual-can diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) aftertreatment system, a passive, maintenance-free solution that reduces fluid consumption and eliminates the need for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). The platform also supports renewable fuels like 100% HVO and can be configured as industrial power units (IPU) with engine-mounted aftertreatment and cooling packs for simplified OEM installation.

Mr. Steve Ferguson, senior vice president of Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems, said, “For nearly 20 years, the Cat C32 platform has set the benchmark for premium power and endurance. The new Cat C32B builds on this legacy with upgrades and new technologies to deliver superior performance for off-highway equipment for years to come.”
