Johannesburg, South Africa- Chery South Africa Proprietary Limited., an automotive manufacturer and wholesaler that imports and retails vehicles and components, has expanded its Tiggo Cross lineup with new Super Hybrid (HEV) models. Available in Comfort and Elite trims, these hybrids offer strong performance, excellent fuel efficiency, and an extended driving range, bringing advanced hybrid technology to more South African motorists.
Under the bonnet, the Tiggo Cross HEV features a 1.5-litre petrol engine delivering 71 kW and 118 Nm of torque. This is paired with an electric motor and a 1.83 kWh battery pack, resulting in a combined output of 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via Chery’s Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), which ensures smooth and efficient delivery in various driving conditions.
One of the standout highlights is its low fuel consumption of just 5.4L/100 km, enabling a remarkable driving range of up to 1,000 km. The intelligent start-stop system further enhances efficiency, particularly in city traffic. This long range reduces the need for frequent refuelling, making it ideal for commuters and long-distance travellers alike—without the range anxiety often associated with battery electric vehicles.
The Tiggo Cross HEV intelligently adapts to different driving conditions by switching between four modes: Pure Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid, and Energy Recovery. These modes maximise fuel efficiency and performance in real time, especially during low-speed urban driving where the system prioritises electric-only operation to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Both Comfort and Elite HEV variants ride on 17-inch alloy wheels and feature a braking setup with front ventilated discs and rear disc brakes. The suspension configuration consists of a front MacPherson strut and a rear torsion beam, providing a stable and comfortable ride across different road surfaces. Exterior design elements include LED headlights and DRLs, a sporty tailgate spoiler, dual chrome exhaust finishers, and body-coloured detailing. The Elite trim also adds red-painted brake callipers and an electrically operated sunroof.
Inside, the Tiggo Cross HEV continues to impress with premium materials and high levels of standard equipment. Both trims feature a soft-touch dashboard and ambient lighting, while the Elite includes black leather upholstery that extends to the multifunction steering wheel. Added comforts in the Elite include heated front seats, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, and two-zone automatic climate control. Keyless entry, second-row air vents, and a 60/40 split rear bench are standard on both variants.
Technology-wise, the cabin is dominated by dual 10.25-inch screens—one for the digital driver display and one for infotainment. The infotainment system supports Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and comes with a wireless charging pad. While the Comfort trim includes a four-speaker audio setup, the Elite upgrades this to six speakers for an enhanced audio experience.
Safety has also been given a strong focus. Both variants feature dual front, side, and curtain airbags, Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Descent Control, and Brake Assist. The Comfort HEV comes with a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines, while the Elite trim boasts a more extensive suite of driver assistance features including Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Door Opening Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent High Beam Control, and a 360-degree HD panoramic camera system.
The Tiggo Cross HEV range is competitively priced, with the Comfort HEV starting at R439,900 and the Elite HEV at R469,900. Both models are backed by a 5-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year/unlimited mileage battery warranty for the first owner, and a 5-year/60,000 km service planensuring lasting peace of mind and value for money.
With the Tiggo Cross HEV, Chery offers a compelling package that blends fuel efficiency, long-range capability, premium features, and advanced safety all at a competitive price point. It’s a hybrid SUV designed for modern South African lifestyles, whether for daily commutes or weekend getaways.
Mr. Tony Liu, CEOof Chery South Africa, said, “With the Tiggo Cross CSH, we’re not just offering a hybrid we’re delivering a solution for drivers who want performance, efficiency, and long-range capability in one package.
