Continental Expands TPMS Production in Bangalore

Bangalore-Continental AG, an automotive technology company has expanded its production of Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) for passenger cars at its Bangalore plant and officially launched the upgraded facility. This move is in response to growing market demand in India and aims to greatly increase production capacity.

The new TPMS line, starting with a capacity of 3.3 million units annually, represents an expansion of the current setup, with additional plans for further growth in the near future. This advanced line, a key part of Continental's smart manufacturing drive, operates with highly automated processes and minimal manual involvement. By expanding this facility, Continental reaffirms its dedication to assisting local OEMs while also aiming to penetrate export markets, particularly in Korea.

Mr.Ramnath Sivaraman, Head of Motion Technologies and Services, within Business Area Safety and Motion, Continental Automotive India, stated, "Keeping in mind the growing demand and the evolving market needs, Continental has expanded the existing TPMS line. This validates Continental’s perseverance to meeting the rising demands for advanced, and affordable safety technologies. The launch of this second-generation TPMS will contribute to cleaner mobility and further advance vehicle safety by ensuring optimal tyre pressure."

The second generation of TPMS offers enhanced accuracy in measuring tire pressure, temperature, and motion from inside the tire itself. This data is transmitted via radio frequency through the vehicle's communication network to display on the instrument cluster. Having precise and timely information about tire conditions is essential for maintaining optimal air pressure, thereby ensuring vehicle safety and improving efficiency. The new TPMS line will initially focus on local assembly of wheel units, with plans for a subsequent phase to localize the production of component parts.

Continental's Bangalore plant, India's largest electronics manufacturing facility, showcases advanced technologies such as Cobots, augmented reality, AI, automated systems, and big data applications, ensuring efficient operations and rapid product deployment. These smart manufacturing processes adopted by Continental provide a strategic advantage both in rapid localisation and also in faster product-to-market solutions.
