Hanover, Germany- Continental AG., has received worldwide original equipment approval to supply its EcoContact 7 tyres for the new Renault Clio, which will be fitted as standard on the latest generation of the compact car. The Clio will roll off the production line with EcoContact 7 tyres in 16- and 18-inch sizes, both of which have achieved top ratings on the EU tyre label for fuel efficiency and low rolling noise.
The EcoContact 7’s strong energy efficiency is driven by a newly developed rubber compound and Continental’s Smart Energy Casing technology. By using advanced materials in the carcass, inner liner, and sidewall, this technology reduces internal friction and lowers rolling resistance. An aerodynamically optimised sidewall, featuring an “aerodimple” structure inspired by golf balls, further reduces air turbulence so the vehicle requires less energy to keep the tyre moving.
For added comfort, Continental has focused on quiet running. The newly developed Silent Pattern tread design reduces rolling noise by carefully optimising the spacing and angles of the tread blocks to correspond with noise frequencies typically generated at low speeds in urban driving. This contributes to a quieter ride for occupants while also reducing noise for pedestrians and residents.
The EcoContact 7 has been approved for the new Renault Clio in the following sizes in numerous countries:
- EcoContact 7, 195/60 R16 93H XL FR
- EcoContact 7, 205/45 R18 90H XL FR
