Ankara, Türkiye- MAN Truck & Bus SE., Expands Electric Bus Production in TürkiyeMAN Truck & Bus has begun series production of the fully electric MAN Lion’s City E at its Ankara plant in Türkiye, further expanding its global e-mobility network. With electric bus production now active in Poland, South Africa, and Türkiye, the company is strengthening its capacity to meet growing worldwide demand for zero-emission buses.

Mr. Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, said the start of e-bus production in Ankara represents a major milestone in the company’s electromobility journey. He noted that the investment will help expand production capacity, strengthen MAN’s global bus network, and enable the company to respond to customer demand with greater speed and flexibility. He added that Ankara will play a central role in MAN’s future e-mobility strategy.

The move forms part of MAN’s broader transformation into a provider of sustainable transport solutions. The Starachowice site in Poland became the first MAN plant fully equipped for large-scale electric vehicle production after the launch of the MAN Lion’s City E in 2020. The Lion’s Explorer E has already been produced in Olifantsfontein for the past two years. In the truck segment, series production of the fully electric MAN eTGS and eTGX began in Munich in 2025, while Krakow is preparing for series production of the MAN eTGL light-duty electric truck in the coming months. MAN is also set to reveal another electric truck model in May at the Transpotec trade show in Milan, which will also be produced in Krakow. Meanwhile, the Nuremberg plant has evolved from a traditional engine manufacturing site into a center for both advanced diesel engines and alternative drive technologies, supported by MAN’s in-house battery production.

MAN has modernized infrastructure at the Ankara plant, optimized production processes, and trained its workforce specifically for electric mobility. These investments are designed to support long-term, high-volume production of zero-emission mobility solutions. In the future, Ankara is expected to produce not only the Lion’s City E but also electric intercity buses and the new Lion’s Coach E for tourist transport in Türkiye.

According to Mehmet Şermet, Head of Production Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, Ankara is becoming one of MAN’s key e-mobility hubs. He highlighted that the plant’s flexible production structure allows electric and conventionally powered buses to be built on the same line, giving the company the ability to respond efficiently to varying market needs.
