Baden-Württemberg, Germany- Mercedes-AMG GmbH., has unveiled the CONCEPT GT XX, an electric sports car that redefines high-performance mobility. Developed in Affalterbach, this visionary four-door concept previews the first series-production model built on the exclusive AMG Electric Architecture (AMG.EA). The GT XX represents a bold leap into the future of electric performance, seamlessly blending race-bred technology, pioneering battery innovations, sustainable materials, and emotionally charged design. With its revolutionary drivetrain and next-generation energy systems, the CONCEPT GT XX sets a new benchmark for what’s possible in the era of electrified driving.

At the core of the GT XX is an all-new electric drivetrain featuring three axial flux motors, co-developed with British electric motor specialist YASA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz AG. These compact yet powerful motors are significantly lighter and more efficient than traditional radial flux motors. Together, they produce over 1,341 horsepower, enabling the GT XX to reach top speeds exceeding 223 mph (360+ km/h). The dual rear motors and front booster motor are housed in High Performance Electric Drive Units (HP.EDUs), offering fully variable torque distribution through AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive.

Complementing the motors is a High Performance Electric Battery (HP.EB), inspired by Formula 1 and the AMG ONE hypercar. Developed with cutting-edge battery cell chemistry, full-tab cylindrical cells, and a unique oil-based direct cooling system, it ensures exceptional thermal management and sustained power output. The 800V system enables charging speeds of over 850 kW, allowing the car to recharge up to 400 km of range in around five minutes, setting a new industry benchmark.

Designed with aerodynamics and efficiency in mind, the GT XX boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.198, achieved through a sleek fastback silhouette, underbody airflow management, and intelligent active aero elements. One standout innovation is the active Aero Wheel, which features five moving blades that open or close to optimize airflow and brake cooling. Each wheel houses its own actuator powered by a self-generated mini-generator, operated wirelessly via Bluetooth an industry-first patented design.

The GT XX also introduces innovative sustainable materials into its interior, notably the LABFIBER Biotech Leather Alternative, created from recycled AMG GT3 race tires and bio-based polymers. Additionally, a biotech silk alternative is used for trim elements like door handles, offering a luxurious yet eco-conscious finish. Ergonomically tailored 3D-printed seat pads, customized using body scans, enhance comfort and bring motorsport-grade seating to the road.

Inside, the car embraces a minimalist, race-inspired aesthetic, with blacked-out surfaces highlighted by vivid orange and silver accents. Exposed body structures, integrated screens, and an AMG-embossed dashboard reflect a purist performance ethos. A unique MBUX Fluid Light Panel at the rear featuring over 700 individually programmable LEDs provides animated lighting effects and even communicates vehicle information such as charging status.

In terms of production, the axial flux motors are being manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz Berlin-Marienfelde plant, a hub of innovation within the company’s global powertrain network. The production process incorporates over 100 steps, including 65 new and 35 world-first manufacturing techniques, supported by laser technologies and artificial intelligence resulting in more than 30 patent applications.

Ultimately, the CONCEPT AMG GT XX is not just a vision of what’s to come; it’s a declaration of intent. From its radical electric propulsion to sustainable materials and intelligent design, this concept reimagines what a true performance EV can be. With production of its key technologies slated for 2026, the GT XX marks the beginning of a new era—where electric power, engineering precision, and AMG emotion converge.

Mr. Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Chief Technology Officer, Development & Procurement, said, “The best minds in our global R&D network have contributed their extensive expertise – from Mercedes‑Benz in Sindelfingen and Untertürkheim to Mercedes‑AMG in Affalterbach and YASA in the UK to our Formula 1 drivetrain experts at Mercedes‑AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth. Together, they have developed the CONCEPT AMG GT XX and are providing an insight into pioneering drivetrain technology and the future of performance. The technology program pushes the boundaries even further and ventures into new ground. The CONCEPT AMG GT XX with its three axial flux motors now lifts performance and endurance to a completely new level.”

Mr. Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of Business Units Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach, said, “The CONCEPT AMG GT XX is the next milestone in the history of AMG and forges a whole new dimension of performance. We’re bringing groundbreaking technology that redefines high performance. And the best thing is that this car is a true AMG with every fiber of its being. The heart of an AMG was always the motor, and that will remain so with our in-house electric architecture. With our high-tech axial flux motor, we’re delivering a revolutionary new drive that is unparalleled in terms of power density, weight and packaging. This pairs with a new performance battery developed from scratch that enables previously unimagined level of performance and endurance.”

Mr. Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said, “With the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, we have succeeded in translating our design vision for AMG into the future. Sports cars have always been the icons of our brand; they are emotional and truly special to create. They represent unique moments in time. Icons like the 300 SL and the legendary Silver Arrows are the emotional heart of our brand, as are the GT and AMG ONE. Crafting these masterpieces is about creating something extraordinary  from the C111 to the Vision One‑Eleven, and into the future of production. The brand-new CONCEPT AMG GT XX embodies the hot part of our design philosophy of sensual purity.”
