Scania Acquires Northvolt Division to Power Off-Road EVs
Scania acquires Northvolt’s Industrial Division to enhance off-road electrification with added battery tech, R&D, and 260 new team members.

Södertälje, Sweden- Sweden AB., has announced the acquisition of the Industrial Division of Northvolt Systems, encompassing production operations, a research and development center, and a team of around 260 employees. The division operates from two key sites: a leased production facility in Gdańsk, Poland, and an R&D hub in Tomteboda, Stockholm, Sweden.
The acquired division specializes in the development and manufacturing of battery systems tailored for heavy industry and off-highway applications. Its product portfolio includes advanced battery modules and systems used across sectors such as material handling, construction, and mining. Moving forward, the unit will operate as a partner to Scania’s Power Solutions business unit, supporting the company’s goal of delivering a diverse and future-ready product lineup.
Scania Power Solutions, with over a century of powertrain innovation, is known for its reliable and efficient engines across industrial, marine, and power generation sectors. This acquisition marks a significant step in expanding Scania’s electrification capabilities, particularly for off-road and heavy-duty applications.

The acquired business will be a partner to Scania Power Solutions and operate as a stand-alone venture within Scania Ventures and New Business, aligning with its strategy to develop complementary and transformational businesses that strengthen Scania’s long-term competitiveness.

As part of the acquisition process, Scania has reached an agreement with the trustee to acquire Northvolt Systems Industrial Division. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
