Brussels, Belgium- Scania CV AB., has launched its high-floor battery-electric bus and coach platform at Busworld Europe. This new BEV platform enables Scania to offer fully electric high-floor buses and coaches designed for both urban and long-distance travel applications.
The new platform forms the foundation for Scania’s first battery-electric coaches, which boast a range of up to 600 km and ample luggage capacity comparable to traditional combustion-engine coaches. This makes it ideal for inter-city routes, airport transfers, and sports team transportation, helping operators transition smoothly to electric mobility without compromising functionality.
Beyond long-distance use, the platform’s flexibility allows for a variety of configurations such as school buses, sightseeing vehicles, and shorter inter-city routes where large luggage space isn’t required. The platform also supports urban bus rapid transit (BRT) systems, offering cities in regions like Africa, Asia, and South America a scalable pathway toward zero-emission public transport.
Built on Scania’s tried-and-tested electric drivetrain technology, the platform delivers up to 330 kW of power with an installed energy capacity of 534 kWh (480 kWh usable). It supports charging rates up to 325 kW (500A) and is compatible with a wide range of body configurations, allowing operators to tailor vehicles to their specific operational needs.
The launch comes as the global shift toward electrified transport accelerates beyond city limits. Scania supports this transition with a comprehensive electrification ecosystem, offering smart charging solutions that help operators manage energy costs, maintain battery health, and achieve predictable operating expenses. The Scania Charging Access service further expands convenience by providing access to an increasing network of public charging stations for heavy vehicles.
Mr. Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management for People Transport Solutions at Scania, said, “With the launch of the new high-floor BEV platform, Scania is not only introducing our first battery-electric coaches but also reinforcing our role as a trusted partner in the transition to sustainable transport. The platform’s versatility addresses operators’ key concerns combining zero-emission performance with the operational demands of both urban and long-distance travel.”
