Bolechowo-Osiedle, Poland- Solaris Bus and Coach sp. z.o.o., has secured several significant orders the municipal public operator MPK Poznań Sp. z o.o., has order. The first ever state-of-the-art Solaris buses outfitted with hydrogen fuel cells have begun operating on the city's streets according to an order from municipal public transportation provider MPK Poznan. The carrier purchased 25 of these vehicles in October 2022. By the end of 2023, the entire order will have been fulfilled. On Warszawska street, there will be a hydrogen refueling station where the vehicles can be refueled.
The city of Pozna placed an investment by ordering for 25 zero-emission hydrogen-powered buses before the end of 2022. Solaris, which has developed hydrogen technology for public transportation for almost ten years, is supplying the vehicles. The first two Urbino 12 hydrogen buses were delivered today by the bus manufacturer. By the end of this year, the carrier will receive the remaining Vehicles.
Mr. Krzysztof Dostatni, CEO of MPK Poznań said that, “Over the years, our company has always maintained a well-considered fleet policy because we want all of the cars in our fleet to be state-of-the-art and emission-free. When it filed the winning bids and gave the city its first electric buses, Solaris Bus & Coach significantly aided in the process. Now, it is giving Pozna the first ever hydrogen-powered electric buses. I have no doubt that the new vehicles will benefit our passengers.
Mr. Dariusz Michalak, CTO of Solaris said that, “Future towns and cities will function on the basis of clean and sustainable transportation. We are thrilled that the people of Pozna will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the benefits of hydrogen as a clean and effective energy source. We are really glad to be able to provide hydrogen buses to this community. Over the past few years, public transportation in Europe has undergone a stunning green revolution. I am pleased to see that Pozna is not only keeping up with these rapid changes but also unquestionably setting the standard in the industry.
The zero-emission driveline of the new vehicles is one of its key features. The hydrogen-derived energy used by the Urbino 12 hydrogen buses is transformed into electricity in a fuel cell. The only byproducts of the chemical reaction that occurs in the fuel cell are heat and water, making it a very clean process. The buses can actually travel 350 km on a full tank in all types of weather and road conditions, and refueling only takes a dozen or so minutes. An exclusive hydrogen refueling station will be open on Warszawska Street in Poznan for this purpose.
These low-floor buses have a completely air-conditioned cabin. Additionally, conveniences including a thorough passenger information system, a security camera system, and mobile device chargers will be available for travellers.
