Friedrichshafen, Germany- The Supervisory Board of ZF Friedrichshafen AG has announced major leadership changes. By mutual agreement, CEO Dr. Holger Klein will step down from the Board of Management on September 30, 2025, after more than a decade with the company and nearly three years as CEO. Mathias Miedreich, currently head of the Electrified Powertrain Technology division and a Board member since January 2025, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Management.
At the same time, Prof. Dr. Peter Laier will also leave the Board of Management by mutual agreement, due to differing views on the company’s future strategic direction. He has been a member of the Board since January 2023, responsible for the Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology divisions, along with Production, Materials Management, and the India region.
Dr. Rolf Breidenbach, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, thanked Dr. Klein for his tireless service and strategic leadership in stabilizing ZF and laying the foundation for its turnaround. He also praised Mr. Miedreich’s proven leadership and industry expertise to guide the company’s next phase of growth. On behalf of the Supervisory Board and shareholders, he and Mayor Simon Blümcke, Chairman of the Zeppelin Foundation, expressed deep appreciation to both Dr. Klein and Prof. Dr. Laier for their significant contributions and wished them well for the future.
Dr. Klein said, “Together with the Board and our employees, we have made significant progress in ZF’s transformation. Our strategy is delivering results, profitability and cash flow are improving, and key restructuring decisions have been taken. I am confident that ZF is on the right track, and this is the right time to hand over leadership to ensure continued momentum.”
With these leadership changes, ZF aims to build on recent progress, accelerate strategic initiatives, and further strengthen its position in the global mobility sector.
