Mercedes-Benz e-Actros 600 Protos Megawatt Charging

Leinfelden-Echterdingen- Germany, Mercedes-Benz Trucks., charges eActros 600 prototypes for the first time at one-megawatt station in Wörth am Rhein. Involved in developing Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard for public charging facility will benefit the longer hauls.  

Mercedes-Benz Trucks engineers continue testing vehicle-to-charging station interface for eActros 600. Series production planned at the end of 2024, with 400 kW CCS charging, later it can be upgraded to 1,000 kW. Mercedes facilitates preorder of 1KW charging which can be retrofittable for the e-Actros 600. 

The eActros 600 boasts over 600 kWh battery capacity, allowing a 500 km range on a single charge. With intermediate charging during breaks, it can cover over 1,000 km daily. For most European journeys under 500 km, depot and point-of-service charging suffice.

Mr. Rainer Müller-Finkeldei, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Product Engineering, said, “Our developers have put the newly defined MCS Standard into the e-truck in the shortest of times with full charging capacity – an outstanding feat of engineering. Customers placing high demands on range and vehicle availability will benefit in particular from megawatt charging at 1,000 kilowatts in future.”

Mr. Peter Ziegler, Head of E-Charging Components, Mercedes-Benz Trucks, said, “The first successful megawatt charging test with our e-truck is an enormous step forward. Within the industry, a charging capacity of more than 700 kilowatts is already referred to as MCS charging. We, however, understand the importance of our customers being able to charge the eActros 600 at a full 1,000 kilowatts and thus benefit from short charging times with a long range. We are now working at full speed to take the MCS technology in our eActros 600 to series maturity.”
