DAF enhances its driver assistant in existing DAF models

Eindhoven, Netherlands- DAF Truck N.V., further expands in safety and driver comfort of all New Generation DAF models by adding a full suite of new Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS) ex-factory. These new systems are standard on all DAF XB, XD, XF, XG and XG⁺ models as of January 2024.

The most recent model of the Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) is fitted with both a radar and a camera, offering up to fully autonomous emergency braking to help prevent collisions with even the most vulnerable road users in front of the vehicle. The new Drive-off Assist feature uses an additional radar to find and alert the driver of any nearby vulnerable road users who are stopped or driving away.

The Event Data Recorder records images and data when the AEBS brake warning is activated and the DAF Side & Turn Assist warns in case pedestrians, cyclists or vehicles are in the vehicle’s blind spots, including all the way to the back of the trailer.

Additionally, each New Generation DAF will have a Speed Limit Recognition feature that will alert the driver to the actual speed limits and issue a warning if they are exceeded. Meanwhile, the Lane Departure Warning System works to prevent unsafe situations by sounding an alarm when a potential lane change occurs.

The new rear view camera displays what is going on behind the truvk on a screen within the cab. When there are approaching or approaching vehicles, the High Beam Assist (optional) automatically dips the high beam. An Emergency Stop Signal, which is a holdover from earlier DAF vehicles, informs other road users when the truck decelerates sharply by flashing hazard lights.

Additionally, additional features are incorporated to further improve driving safety. In addition, a preparation for an alcohol interlock is provided to make it easier to install a device that ensures a negative alcohol test result before the engine can be started. The new DAF Drowsiness Detection measures the driver's alertness and alertness levels and alerts when a break is necessary.

Mr. Patrick Dean, member of the DAF Board of Management and Chief Engineer, said that, In terms of both passive and active safety systems, DAF is at the forefront. In order to further solidify our position as the industry leader in safety, we have now integrated unmatched direct and indirect view, superior cab strength, and class-leading ergonomics. This enhances the safety of all other road users in addition to the owner and driver of our range of New Generation DAF trucks, who place the utmost importance on it. We are undoubtedly creating a new industry standard for safety with the new technology that will be required as of January.
