Portland, Oregan- Freightliner Trucks., a division of Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) LLC, Freightliner is working with Cummins Inc., to offer the new Cummins X15N natural gas engine in its heavy-duty Freightliner Cascadia trucks. The X15N is the first natural gas engine to be designed specifically for heavy-duty and on-highway truck applications, with 400 to 500 hp and 1,450 to 1,850 lb-ft of torque.

Said that, We have a handful of clients that continue to operate natural gas trucks today, and our goal is to offer those customers with the equipment, such as the X15N, they require to run their business successfully. The new X15N natural gas engine option for our Freightliner Cascadias expands our offering of solutions that assist our clients in running their fleets more efficiently and responsibly.

Freightliner will offer the new X15N in both sleeper and day cab versions with the Cascadia 126" BBC. Production is expected to start in 2025. The Freightliner Cascadia is the market-leading Class 8 vehicle, boasting great efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and best-in-class safety thanks to the Detroit Assurance suite of safety systems.

Mr. José Samperio, vice president and general manager, North America On-Highway, Cummins Inc. said that, Our end-user clients are seeking for solutions to fulfil their sustainability goals, and the X15N is critical to our commitment to assisting customers in achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and improving NOx.The X15N, an industry-first huge bore natural gas powertrain with power and torque curves that are nearly equal to diesel, will enable long-haul fleets enhance their economic and environmental performance.

When running on renewable natural gas, also known as RNG or biomethane, the X15N engine can dramatically cut heavy-duty truck lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions. Depending on the bio-source and waste feedstock utilised to make the fuel, this can range from a 90 percent reduction to carbon neutral, or even carbon negative.

The new X15N emits less NOx than the EPA and CARB regulations for 2024. The X15N's peak torque output of 1,850 lb-ft. is very impressive, allowing for optimal performance when partnered with the Eaton Cummins Endurant HD N Transmission and the availability of optimised EX ratings.
