Chennai- In a significant development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, during an event at the Metropolitan Transport Corporation's in Chennai today, announced a groundbreaking initiative by the Tamil Nadu government to provide 1666 new buses at a cost of ₹634.99 crores. The first phase of this initiative involved the distribution of 100 Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) buses, marking the commencement of a comprehensive plan to enhance public transportation services across the state. 

As part of the program, the government aims to cater to the transportation needs of both economically disadvantaged and middle-class citizens by offering cost-effective and efficient bus services. The initiative includes the allocation of 100 new buses for free public use, with a particular focus on meeting the travel requirements of economically weaker sections of society. 

The newly introduced BSVI buses not only adhere to stringent emission standards but also offer enhanced features such as improved fuel efficiency, making them environmentally friendly and cost-effective in the long run. The buses are equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable and safe travel experience for passengers. 

In addition to the free bus services, the government is also implementing various schemes to benefit school and college students, providing them with free bus passes and ensuring that they have access to affordable and convenient transportation options. 

Chief Minister MK Stalin said that, government's commitment to revolutionizing the public transportation system in the state. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of creating a sustainable and accessible transportation network, contributing to a cleaner environment and improved quality of life for the residents of Tamil Nadu.
