ChargePoint introduces a cut-resistant cable and alarm system to boost station security available by mid-2025 and this month respectively
Date: January 21, 2025Campbell, United states- ChargePoint Inc., a provider of networked charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), they announced two innovative new solutions to combat charger vandalism, featuring a new cut-resistant charging cable and ChargePoint® Protect, an alarm system designed to increase charging station security.
ChargePoint has introduced the industry's first cut-resistant charging cable, designed to prevent theft and vandalism. Leveraging over 15 years of innovation, the cable features unique materials that make it difficult to cut while remaining flexible for easy use. ChargePoint plans to offer these cables at commercial and fleet stations and license the design to other manufacturers. This initiative aims to enhance the security and reliability of charging stations. The cut-resistant cables are expected to be available for licensing by mid-2025.
ChargePoint Protect, an alarm system designed to enhance charging station security. Integrated with existing charger features like speakers, screens, and lighting, it detects tampering with charging cables in real time and activates an alarm to deter vandalism. Available at no extra cost to existing customers, ChargePoint Protect can be enabled through a cloud-based software upgrade on select models. Customers will receive SMS or email alerts if the alarm is triggered, allowing for quicker responses. ChargePoint expects the system to be available starting this month.
Mr. Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, said, “ChargePoint Protect and our cut-resistant cables demonstrate our relentless dedication to offering a dependable charging network. We do not view ourselves as victims of vandalism, but rather responsible for solving it, not only for our customers but for the industry. We are sharing the technology to combat vandalism in the most aggressive way possible with the aim to eliminate charger reliability as a hinderance to EV adoption.”
ChargePoint expects these two new solutions, when combined, will benefit charging station owners by reducing station repair costs associated with vandalism and EV drivers by ensuring they can trust charging stations to work when and where they need them.
