EIMA Honors Prof. Enzo Manfredi: A Key Figure in Agricultural Mechanics

Bologna, Italy - Professor Enzo Manfredi, said, "I was always out in the fields," during a video message from his home, greeting the teachers, students, and entrepreneurs who have long regarded him as a key figure in the modernization of agricultural mechanics.

Celebrating his 100th birthday, Manfredi was honored by the University of Bologna and the National Academy of Agriculture at the 46th EIMA International exhibition in Bologna. Reflecting on his career, he emphasized that since the 1950s, machinery has been central to agricultural modernization and encouraged young people to explore new research areas, including biofuels.

Manfredi, who reflected on his rural roots, graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Florence in 1959. He later became a collaborator, student, and assistant to Giuseppe Stefanelli, the pioneer behind the development of agricultural mechanics in Italy.

Manfredi carried forward Stefanelli's legacy, pioneering new research areas in the field and anticipating future challenges for agricultural machinery manufacturers. He began teaching at the University of Padua in 1958 and returned to Bologna in 1966, where he taught at the Alma Mater until his retirement in 1997. "Professionally," he noted, "I have worked with the diverse agricultural world of my origins for nearly half a century."
