Date: December 14, 2022New Delhi- On 14-12-2022, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways notified Central Motor Vehicles (Twenty-third Amendment) Rules, 2022 to amend Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (“CMV Rules”) and allow the conversion of regular vehicle registrations into Bharat Series (BH) numbers as part of measures to widen the scope of the BH series ecosystem. Theprovisions of the amendment came into effect on 14-12-2022.
According to the new regulations, going forward transferring vehicle ownership with BH series registration to other parties who meet the requirements as well as to those who are not qualified to get the BH series will become easier. Vehicles with standard registration marks can also be converted to BH series registration marks with the payment of the necessary taxes, helping those who afterwards qualify for BH series registration marks.
As per the new draft notification issued by MoRTH, ” Provided that application for registration of the vehicle under BH series, opted voluntarily by the vehicle owner, shall be made to any registering authority of the state, in which the vehicle owner has either permanent residence or place of work and the registration mark shall be generated randomly through the portal after verification of working certificate in Form 60 or Official identity card, as the case may be, by the registering authority.”
