Amsterdam, Netherlands- Stellantis N.V., and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL)., they announced the signing of a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the local supply of LFP battery cells and modules to power Stellantis’ electric vehicle production in Europe. To further support Stellantis’ aggressive electrification strategy, the two companies are considering the possibility to form a joint venture with equivalent contributions.

The MoU outlines a long-term collaboration between CATL and Stellantis on two strategic fronts: building a bold technology roadmap to support Stellantis’ cutting-edge battery electric vehicles and identifying opportunities to further strengthen the battery value chain.

Mr. Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, said that, This MoU on LFP battery chemistry with CATL is an additional component of our long-term plan to safeguard the middle class's freedom of movement in Europe. As the industry leader in this field, CATL will work with our recognizable automobile brands to provide our customers with cutting-edge and easily accessible battery technology, assisting us in reaching our goal of being carbon neutral by 2038.

Mr, Robin Zeng, Chairman and General Manager of CATL, said that, We are thrilled to take our partnership with Stellantis to a whole new level. Given CATL's cutting-edge battery technology and Stellantis' well-established experience in the auto industry, we think this collaboration will be a significant step toward both companies' carbon neutrality objectives. We are committed to helping our partners achieve the global energy transition by providing them with more affordable and environmentally friendly options.

LFP technology, which has a long service life and good thermal stability, can help Stellantis provide economical, high-quality, and long-lasting electric vehicles in the B and C class for passenger cars, crossovers, and SUVs.

By 2030, Stellantis aims to achieve a 100% battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales mix in Europe and a 50% BEV sales mix in the US for passenger cars and light-duty trucks as part of the Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. By 2038, Stellantis plans to be a carbon-neutral company. In order to guarantee a steady, low-carbon supply of essential materials for its electrified future, Stellantis is building a list of alliances.
