Tata International DLT engages services of Wabco to launch India’s first intelligent trailer

Pune- Tata International DLT Ltd¹ of Pune, a joint venture between Tata International Ltd and Dutch Lanka Trailer Manufacturers (P) Ltd (DLT) of Colombo, Sri Lanka jointly worked with Wabco and launched India’s first intelligent trailer which provides advanced safety systems, operational efficiency, load optimization, CO₂ reduction and driver comfort and effectiveness.

The Intelligent Trailer is fitted with smart technology (sensors and ECUs etc.) that provides data for operational optimization and trailer maintenance. The intelligent trailer system from Wabco has a suite of options to improve safety and trailer operation, these include Tail Guard³, Optiturn⁶, Bounce Control⁷, Smart Board², Trailer Remote Control, Opti-Level⁵ and Opti-Tire⁴

Rajeev Batra, chief executive officer, Tata International DLT, said: “The intelligent flatbed trailer is the first in a series of intelligent trailer types that we are set to launch. These are lightweight trailers customized to give higher payload, thus increasing profitability.”

²Smart board access key trailer information like axle load, mileage status, tire pressure and temperature, brake pad wear, trailer EBS failure codes and activate trailer EBS, suspension functions such as Opti level, Opti turn and immobilizer. Mounted on the side of the trailer and linked directly to the Trailer EBS E, control pad allows the driver to select and operate available Trailer EBS E and suspension functions.

³Tail Guard is rear blind spot detection system that automatically stops the trailer, also display the distance to objects behind the trailer and sounds an alert when the trailer comes within the pre-programmed distance of an object. Stopping distance can be programmed between 50-200cm.

⁴Opti tire is an Integrated tire pressure monitoring system warns of over and under-inflation enhancing fuel economy and safety.

⁵Opti level is an Advanced air suspension system for trailers.

⁶OPTITURN™ Intelligent support for maneuvering and steering through curve. Increases turning cycle by up to 0.5 meters by lifting the axle and shortening the wheelbase.

⁷Bounce Control Prevents trailers from physical bouncing as brakes are released after the cargo has been unloaded.
