Tata Motors delivered 20 hybrid-electric AC buses to MMRDA

Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd of Mumbai, delivered 25 Nos of Tata Starbus Diesel Series Hybrid-Electric AC bus3 to MMRDA1 for the order which placed on Mar’2016. The regional transport office (RTO) has registered and certified 20 hybrid-electric AC buses and 5 more will be registered soon, it will be operated under BEST2 routes between Bandra and Sion stations via Bandra-Kurla Complex

MMRDA got for USD0.26m, hybrid-electric bus is economically viable, with improved 25-30% fuel savings and will run on only electric mode for 30-35% of the total travel distance.

BEST’s drivers and conductors been trained on operating these buses, which comply with all UBS-II (urban bus specifications), AIS 052 (automotive industry standards) and CMVR (central motor vehicle rules).

Girish Wagh, president, commercial vehicles business, Tata Motors Ltd said” these buses, powered by BS-IV engines, are the first series of the hybrid electric architecture buses and are a testimony to the company's technological prowess.”

"We will continue our work on electrification and alternate fuel technologies and engage with government and regulatory authorities to promote such mobility solutions," Wagh added.

The ladder type chassis of 12m length and wheel base 6200mm is fitted with Full Pneumatic Suspension at front and rear with kneeling facility and Hydraulic Double Acting Telescopic Type Shock Absorbers for improved ride quality. Added intelligence transport system, also equipped with CCTV cameras, wi-fi hotspot, mobile phone charging points and emergency stop button for passengers.
